ABOUT OUR CANDLES
WHY WE USE SOY WAX?
Soy Wax offers a range of fantastic benefits. It's a fantastic value, burning longer than paraffin wax,so your candles last longer.Plus:
- Natural and Easy to Clean: It's 100% natural and spills can be easily cleaned with just soap and water.
- Sustainable and Renewable: Derived from soybean husks, a sustainable crop that can be replenished, making it an eco-friendly choice.
- Suitable for Many: Soy wax is vegan-friendly, alcohol-free, and kosher, catering to various lifestyles and preferences.
- Gentle on Your Health: It's less likely to trigger allergies compared to other waxes, making it a great choice for sensitive individuals.
WHY YOUR SOY CANDLE WILL LAST LONGER THAN A PARAFFIN CANDLE?
Soy wax burns for longer than paraffin wax due to a few key factors:
- Lower Melting Point: Soy wax has a lower melting point than paraffin wax. This means it burns at a cooler temperature, causing the wax to melt and be consumed more slowly.
- Density: Soy wax is denser than paraffin wax. This higher density means there's more wax to burn through, contributing to a longer burn time.
- Cleaner Burn: Soy wax generally produces a cleaner burn with less soot and smoke compared to paraffin wax. This cleaner burn can also contribute to a slightly longer burn time as less wax is wasted in the form of soot.
In summary, the combination of a lower melting point, higher density, and cleaner burn allows soy wax candles to outlast their paraffin counterparts, providing a longer-lasting and more enjoyable experience.
WHY WE USE WOOD WICKS?
Wood wicks offer several benefits that made us choose them as the wick for your candles:
- Longer Burn Time: Wood wicks tend to burn slower than traditional cotton wicks, allowing you to enjoy your candle for a longer period.
- Even Burn: The wider flame of a wood wick encourages a more even melt pool, reducing tunneling and maximizing the use of the wax.
- Cleaner Burn: Wood wicks produce less soot and smoke compared to cotton wicks, resulting in a cleaner and healthier experience.
- Aesthetic Appeal: The natural look of a wood wick adds a touch of rustic charm and elegance to any candle.
- Sustainability: Wood wicks are often made from sustainably sourced materials, making them an environmentally friendly option.
SOME TIPS FOR FIRST TIME WOOD WICK USERS:
Wooden wicks offer a delightful experience, but they do require a little extra care compared to traditional wicks.Their unique aesthetic and clean burn make the effort worthwhile! Here are some key tips for first-time users:
- Fully Lighting The Wick: We cut our wood wicks prior to sending them out so they are ready to go and at the correct length for you. Ensure the entire width of the wick is lit, and not just one side of the wick.
- Avoid Drafts: Wooden wick candles are sensitive to drafts, so place them in a draft-free area. If there is a draft, it may result in sooting and impact a clean burn. NEVER PLACE A CANDLE NEAR THE WINDOW.
- Initial Burn Time: Allow your candle to burn for at least 2 hours or until you have achieved a full melt pool on-top. This ensures an even burn and minimizes wax residue on the container. If you blow out the candle early before there is a full melt pool, this will result in your candle tunnelling and candles have burn memories which means it will continue to tunnel through the lifespan of the candle.
- Trim Before Relighting: Before relighting, gently tap the wick to remove any charred wood and discard it. Leaving charred wood can affect the burn quality. We have found the easiest way to do this is without all the fancy candle gadgets, simply pinch the char off with a tissue or use nail clippers to give it a trim and the candle will be ready to go for another lovely burn.
With a little patience and these tips, you'll enjoy the full beauty and ambiance of your wooden wick candles. What if my wooden wick isn't lighting? Think of the wick as a pathway that draws the fragrance/essential oils and wax upwards when lit. This process takes time, particularly with wood wicks, so patience is key during lighting. The burning wick plays a vital role in releasing the fragrance, so a full melt pool with hotter wax leads to a stronger scent throw. If you encounter a low flame with a wooden wick, don't worry – this is normal. The wick will continue to heat up, and the flame will eventually regain its height. Remember to keep the wax free of debris like charred wick or matches, as these can obstruct the wick and hinder a clean burn.
WHY DOES MY WAX DISCOLOUR AFTER A BURN?
We embrace the natural, creamy colour of soy wax and choose not to add any artificial dyes to our candles. However, it's important to remember that natural ingredients can sometimes affect the final colour. Fragrance oils, which often contain elements like vanillin, citrus oils, and cinnamon, can vary slightly from batch to batch. This may cause your candles to develop a subtle discoloration over time. Rest assured, this is perfectly normal and doesn't indicate any issue with the fragrance oil itself. It's simply a natural part of using natural ingredients. Additionally, the wooden wick itself can contribute to a slight discoloration as it burns. This, too, is a natural process, so please don't worry!
ARE THE CANDLES PET FRIENDLY?
If you follow us on Instagram or Facebook, you will know we have two beautiful kitty cats of our own, Zara & Linnie! We enjoy using our candles at home ourselves as it is the main reason we started this business is to create candles that are safe to burn at home and enjoy with the whole family, even the furry family members. However, there are some candles we would advise to avoid when it comes to pet owners. Any of our candles that contain lavender (calming wildflowers & lavender haze) should be avoided as Lavender is not safe even in candle form for our little furry pets. Similarly, we would also advise to stay away from our mood boost range as essential oils and pets sadly don't go hand in hand. * If you have any medical concerns about your pet, for example raspatory issues or allergies, we would avoid using candles around pets all together or to seek advice from your vet first.
